How You've Changed ||Eren X Reader|| Modern AU [2]

"What do you mean you knew about him!?" You questioned your friend Mikasa. She shrugged, and chewed her sushi slowly.

"I mean, he is like a brother to me, so.." She drifted off and picked up another piece. You rolled your eyes and took a bite out of your chocolate roll.

"How come you never told me?" You asked with a mouthful.

"I thought you would've noticed, he hasn't changed that much."

Pfft, yeah right. You thought to yourself. "Speak of the devil." Mikasa pointed to Eren as he walked into the classroom. You looked over to him, and immediately puffed out your cheeks in anger.

"Yippie~" You cheered sarcastically. Mikasa looked over to you, and narrowed her eyebrows. You just looked at her unamused, and took another bite of your roll.

"Hey Mikasa." Eren greeted. You looked over to the German boy, and watched as he talked about something with her.

"Oh really? Well welcome to our class, I guess." She welcomed him, as he sat down next to her and mumbled a 'thanks'. You widened your eyes as you realized what was going on.

"Wa-Wait, so he switched to our class?" You pointed to him with a dumfounded expression. Mikasa nodded quietly, while Eren smirked, and put his hands behind his head. You groaned and hit your head on the table. "Whhhyyyy." You said under your breath.

"Because the class he was taking wasn't advanced enough for him, so he moved to ours." Mikasa answered. You pouted and looked at Eren. He smiled and looked back over to Mikasa.

"Was it not obvious?" He added. You rolled your eyes and looked over to Sasha and Connie. They were laughing and pushing each other around like lovey dovey couples do. Connie sneaked a kiss on the cheek, leaving Sasha to blush and push him to the floor, kissing him more passionately. You all of a sudden thought of you and Eren doing the same thing, making you blush madly, and look away.

Why the fuck would I think of that? The only time when I had feelings for him was when he was his old self, not the way he is now. You thought to yourself. You shook off the thought, and checked the time.

"Oh look, looks like lunch is over." Everyone looked at the clock, and nodded their heads. You smiled, and got up to throw away the leftovers of your roll. You were suddenly stopped by someones hand, as they held your wrist tightly. You looked up, to meet with emerald green eyes that stared at you seriously.

"You're just going to waste that?"

"Uhh, yeah I'm done Eren."

"Then let me have it."

"But I bit out of it."

"So?" He raised an eyebrow, as if that was a stupid question. You blushed slightly, as he took it out of your hand. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, as he lowered it to his month. Right when he was about to bite it, the bell rang. He looked over to you, and dropped it in the trashcan, smirking. "Just kidding." You rolled your eyes in annoyance and went to your seat.

"Alright class, today we have a new addition to our class, his name is Eren Jaeger." The teacher pointed to the brunette, and he gave a brief wave and smile. "Jaeger, please go sit down next to Miss (l/n), since it is the only seat we have available." You widened your eyes, and raised your hand as quickly as possible.

"Wa-Wait, if he is going to sit there, can I please switch seats with someone?" The teacher shot you a death glare, with his gray, stone cold eyes.

"Don't be rude, or you will clean this room until your arms break." He replied harshly. You yelped, and slowly lowered your hand.

"Sorry Mr. Ackerman..." He nodded, and motioned for Eren to go take a seat. He plopped down lazily next to you, and put his hands in his pockets. You glanced over to him, and noticed him staring at you. You turned your head fully, and made eye contact with him. He kept a normal face, while you blushed slightly, admiring his features.

His bright, turquoise eyes melted your soul, just like they did back then. They never changed, they were your favorite thing about him. His tousled brown hair look like he just got out of bed, but yet, at the same time, looked put together. He wore a blue hoodie, with a graphic tee, and dark skinny jeans.

Realizing a certain sensation in your stomach, you turned away and watched the board. If only you didn't change so much. You sighed and took out your notebook and pencil, accidentally dropping the pencil between yours and Eren's desk. You groaned, and bent over to pick it up.

You then felt a warm hand being placed on top of yours, as you grabbed the pencil. You looked up, and saw Eren eyes widen, and quickly took his hand away. "Sorry, I was trying to grab it." He apologized.

"No, it's okay..." You sat normally, and began to take notes on what was written on the board.

During the lesson, you couldn't stop secretly glancing at a certain someone.

~*Time Skip After School*~

Your friends decided to stay after school to help clean up, so you left without saying goodbye to them. You walked happily off of the school grounds, and soon onto the sidewalk you and Eren used to get home.

You saw the brunette in front of you walking home, so you decided to yell to him. "Oi! Erreennn!" He turned around, and kept his normal expression.

"Yes (y/n)?" He questioned. You smirked, and ran up to him, soon enough to be arm to arm with him.

"Nothing, I just decided since we go the same way, we could walk together." You smiled and nudged him lightly. He looked a bit surprised to see you being so friendly with him, but he shrugged it off and continued to walk. You two were in silence for a while, until you decided to ask him about where hes been. "So Eren, where have you been? You just all of a sudden disappeared in the middle of 8th grade." You looked up to him, your (e/c) orbs shining from the sun.

He stiffened, and looked down, his brown locks covering his eyes. Knowing this was obviously something he didn't want to talk about, you looked away. "I-I'm sorry, if you don't want to talk about it, it's okay.." You drifted off, and entwined your fingers.

He continued to look down the whole way to his house, until you two had to part. It was awkward after you asked the question, so he continued to stay silent, not even saying a goodbye. You sighed, and walked to your home with your ear buds in.

Way to make things awkward (y/n)...

The next day, he acted like nothing happened. He continued to be cheerful and annoying like he always was, and even didn't act any different when he made fun of you. You questioned this, but you also continued to act like nothing happened.

"So, Eren, want to walk together again today?" You asked at lunch. He looked over to you with a mouthful of food, and a surprised look.

"Swure." He answered. You chuckled, and watched as he turned to Jean, and started to argue about something ridiculous. You rolled your eyes, and talked with Krista and Mikasa.

"I didn't even know you guys lived near each other." Krista spoke. You shook your head, and pointed your thumb over your head, towards the direction of your house.

"We don't, we just walk the same way." She made a 'o' with her mouth, and nodded her head slowly. Ymir put her arm over her shoulder, and kissed her cheek.

"Don't make my Krista sound stupid (Y/n)." Ymir snarled.

"S-Sorry!" You apologized while slouching. Krista chuckled, while you slowly chewed on your food. You glanced at Eren, he was still arguing with Jean, and Mikasa was trying to pry them apart. Idiot You giggled. They looked over to you, and shot you a glare.

"What's so funny (y/n)?" Jean questioned harshly.

"Yeah! I'm just trying to prove to this horseface that I can beat him in a food eating contest."

"Can not!"

"Can too!"

And so they continued to argue, forgetting about you. You smirked and shot up from your seat, making Krista flinch. "I bet I can beat both of you in a food eating contest!" They looked at you with surprise, as you grabbed a sandwich, and took a humungous bite. "You in?" You questioned. They looked at you mischievously and sat down in their chairs.

"In." They both said in sync.

Sasha went to go buy some snacks from the vending machine, spending almost 50$ on it. Though, she kept almost half of it.

So contest began, with Jean in first, and Eren soon catching up. You tipped your bag of chips, and poured all the chips into your mouth, and swallowed quickly. Now you were in first, with Jean last. You looked over to Eren, to see him frantically stuffing as much food as he could into his mouth. You chuckled mentally, knowing if you actually laughed, all the food would come spilling out.

And so, the contest continued.

Towards the end, Sasha jumped on the table and began to eat everything. Connie tried to stop her, but she wouldn't budge, she was a whole new person when it came to food. But, even though that happen, you still won.

"Ha! In your face Jaeger!" You obnoxiously stuck your finger in his face, making him slap your hand harshly, and lean in towards your face.

"Whatever, I just wasn't prepared."

You smirked and stuck your tongue out at him. "Whatever you say~"

"Just because I came in last, doesn't mean I lost, it just means I'm not pigs like you two." Jean said. You and Eren looked at him with a childish look and laughed. Jean blushed, and walked out of the classroom, Mikasa following behind. Just then, the bell rung for class.

You looked over to Eren, and stuck your hand out. "Good game." He looked at your hand, then up to you with a surprised look. He grinned, and grabbed your hand to shake it.

"Yeah, good game." He replied. You both sat down at your desk, and prepared for class.

~*Time Skip After School _again*~ A/N Just so you know, even though this is Ao Haru Ride inspired, I didn't want to put all the scenes into the story, so there are some changes :3

Once you got out of class, you and Eren walked out the school together, and down the sidewalk. You talked about random topics, like your favorite artists, random back stories of when you two were in 8th grade. But you couldn't help but bring up the topic about what happen to him.

"Eren.." You spoke. He looked over to you and hummed questioningly, at your sudden seriousness. You looked away, and sighed softly. "Please, tell me why you left..." You drifted off and looked at him with concern. He tensed up, but soon relaxed and stopped walking. You stopped with him, and watched as he looked down, his chocolate brown locks covering his face, just like last time. "You just...disappeared, and reappeared all of a sudden!"

"(Y/n)...I..." He stopped and looked at you. You sighed and put your hand on his shoulder. Maybe I shouldn't have brought it up. You thought.

"It's okay, you don't have to tell me Eren, I'm sorry I brought it up aga-"

"No." He interrupted you. You looked at him, as he brought his head up to you, his turquoise eyes suddenly becoming more serious. "It's....It's okay.." You widened your eyes, with your mouth hung open agape. He stood up straight and faced his body towards you. You flinched, as he leaned down, and placed his head on your shoulder. "That day, at the festival....did....." he paused. "..did you wait for me?" You stayed silent, as you felt a knot form in your chest. You then felt a warm liquid fall down your cheeks.

"I did..."  You stopped, choking on sadness. "I waited so long..." You sniffed, your salty tears falling down onto the sidewalk, as you cried.

"Yeah. I'm sorry.." He apologized silently, but still loud enough for you to hear it. You clutched onto his sleeve, and held onto it tightly, while still crying. "I thought you hated boys, so.."

"That was just-"

"No..I still meant to go to the Festival that day...But we started to have trouble at home.." He paused, and sighed into your shoulder. "Things got complicated.." He then lifted off your shoulder, your (h/c) hair sliding off his head. You stared off to the side, your tears starting to stop. You wiped them away and stared into his eyes. His eyes were filled with sadness and regret, like he didn't mean to do what happen that day. It wasn't his fault. All this time, you thought he bailed on you.

"Eren..."

"I'm sorry I couldn't make it that day." He interrupted you. He smiled warmly, the sun shining perfectly on his face, just like he did back then.

That's right, a lot of things happened in Eren's life...A lot more then mine, yet I-

"I'm sorry." You apologized. "I was insensitive and asked too much." You looked down, and clutched your skirt.

"It's okay.." He spoke softly. You looked up to him, all of a sudden a weight was lifted off your chest.

"Wanna go home?" You asked with a smile. He looked at you, grinning brightly.

"Yeah."

The two of you walked in silence, until you two had to break apart. "Thanks for walking with me." You thanked. He nodded, and turned around to walk back towards his house. You watched him as he walked away, "Eren!" You shouted. He turned around, and looked at you questionably. "You and Jean going to have a rematch tomorrow?" You smiled. He blinked a few times before looking up at the sky and chuckling.

"Only if that horse wants to."

You giggled and put your hand up to wave goodbye. "Bye Eren! See you tomorrow!" He waved back, as you turned around and walked down the street. He watched your figure, as you turned a corner, your (h/c) hair flipping back. He hummed, and turned around to walk to his house.

You couldn't wait to see him tomorrow, and the day after that. You were so happy you finally got to learn something about Eren, and that knot that formed your chest...

Suddenly disappeared.
